The Approach
After deciding on the personal story I wanted my brand to tell, I developed and logo, color palette, and purchased a set of graphic elements to aid in developing the brand’s visual identity. Next, I delved into pattern development and printing scale mock-ups to get a grasp of graphic sizing and to make any pattern changes before printing full scale mock ups of the single and four count cupcake box.
The Solution
The final package design provides a recyclable, paper packaging solution with a variety of features. The lid can be removed and placed on the bottom of the box, providing both a carrying case for transport and a convenient way to display the cupcakes when the consumer arrives at their destination. The pattern was developed as one pattern piece so that the design can be self assembled easily via folding, no glue necessary. This allows the boxes to be easily pre-assembled and stored until needed. Most importantly, the cupcake support takes into account finger room so that there are no accidental finger-frosting collisions. The insert folds in to rest snugly within the confines of the box, doubling the material thickness. This makes the support more stable and secure than current boxes, meaning no cupcakes fall over in transport. Phew!
